Many of Wealden District Council properties are off the gas mains and heated by storage heaters or direct electricity, an expense passed onto tenants. Having already experienced Space Air and the Daikin Altherma heat pump system, a 3-bedroom semi detached 96sqm home in Berwick was identified by WDC to upgrade the inefficient and bulky storage heaters to an air-to-water heat pump system.

An exceptional 5 bedroom new build detached arts and crafts style home, approximately 680m2 over 4 floors located on a grandeur estate in Surrey is heated entirely by one air source, air/water outdoor unit. The luxurious house has under floor heating throughout and en-suite bathrooms to each bedroom, all heated by wall to floor towel rails and fitted with larger than average power showers, requiring a high volume of water.

12 x Apartment - Refurbishments
Lee Housing Association is a community-based organisation that aims to provide good quality accommodation. Swan House was originally built for students, split into four blocks, each block contains four 5-shares and eight 2-shares, all are served by the original under-floor heating system since 1979, serviced by electric wires within the floor construction. The original under-floor heating installed had no controls to vary temperature; it was either on or off.

Housing Association Refurb — Wiltshire
The Government, through the Technology Strategy Board (TSB), allocated £17million to find innovative ways of reducing carbon emissions and provide exemplar energy efficient measures in the UK social housing sector. Sarsen Housing was awarded funding for the whole house refurbishment of an off-gas 1930’s three bed, semi-detached unoccupied house that had poor levels of energy efficiency, near Devizes, Wiltshire.

The 2 new build homes utilise the innovative, highly energy efficient Space Air Daikin Altherma low temperature system for heating and domestic hot water. The heat pump system has been connected to radiators throughout and to the hot water storage cylinder.
21 x New build homes — Surrey
Mayfields is a superb development of 2, 3 and 4 bedroom semi-detached and detached family homes located in the English village of Loxwood. All the homes include the energy efficient Space Air Daikin Altherma air-to-water heat pump system, providing heating and hot water (with immersion heater backup) to each home, connecting to radiators with thermostatic control and towel radiators in the bathroom areas.
8 x Residential apartments — Surrey
8 Daikin Altherma Split Heat Pump Systems were used for heating and domestic hot water to top floor luxury apartments. The indoor units and storage cylinders have been placed in the apartments’ airing cupboards. There was enough space around the indoor units and cylinders to install washing machines and shelving. The outdoor units have been positioned on the roof, with easy access for the annual maintenance check.
7 x New build homes — Wiltshire
The 7 new build homes vary in size from a modest 3 bed up to a large 5 bedroom home. All homes connect to radiators throughout and to the Daikin hot water storage cylinder. The indoor units have been placed in the airing cupboards, leaving room for storage with the outdoor units situated to the back of the homes. All homes utilise the unique Space Air Altherma accessory pack to ensure easy user operation, simplified maintenance and ease for sourcing spare parts if needed.

The two detached 247sqm 4 bedroom / 2 bathroom family homes incorporates under floor heating throughout - heated by the Daikin Altherma ‘classic’ split system. The Daikin Altherma system ensures maximum reduction in running cost and dramatically reduces carbon emissions for potential home owners, due to the low temperatures that are required.
3 x 4 bedroom homes — Jersey
The Daikin Altherma air-to-water heat pump system, supplied by Space Air Solutions, has been chosen to provide the heating and hot water for a new Courtyard development in Jersey. The 4 bedroom homes conceal the Daikin Altherma system by positioning the hot water storage cylinder with expansion vessel in the airing cupboard, the indoor hydrobox boiler has been placed in the utility room with casing around all pipe work. The outdoor units for each home have been placed to the side of the properties, hidden in an architecturally designed wooden enclosure.
Care Village, new build — Daventry
The Daikin Altherma heat pump system has been supplied by Space Air for all the heating and hot water of the newly built, high quality Care Village ‘ Nursing Homes’ in Brampton, Daventry. Built in 2008 they consist of 21 flats and 14 bungalows for the elderly. The Daikin Altherma system connects to LST (low service temperature) radiators throughout and the domestic hot water tank. In addition to the Daikin Altherma system, each bungalow has the Daikin Heat Recovery Ventilation unit installed.
12 Apartments — Surrey
Daikin Altherma - supplied by Space Air Solutions and marketed as ‘the future of central heating systems – today’, has been chosen for the heating and hot water throughout a prestigious collection of 11 spacious two bedroom apartments and a penthouse, constructed over 4 floors in Weybridge, Surrey. The outdoor units have been positioned out of sight on the roof, possible due to the Daikin Altherma systems long pipe runs.
3 x Detached new build luxury homes
The highly efficienct low temperature Daikin Altherma heat pump system, supplied by Space Air, has been installed into a new and exclusive luxury development. The air to water system blends into the contemporary design, as it is situated in a plant room without the need for flues or ventilation and connected to underfloor heating throughout. The Daikin Altherma system has been set up to operate continually via a time clock on the ‘advanced’ controller.
Self Build — Shetlands
Space Air first launched the Daikin Altherma system to the UK at the Ecobuild show in 2005 and the following year at the Ideal Home Show. A local builder from the Shetland Islands visited both exhibitions where he was able to see the system in full operation and speak to Space Air representatives directly about the after sales and technical support that could be provided. This convinced him that the Daikin Altherma system, supplied by Space Air was the best solution to operate his own home, underfloor heating.
Semi Detached — Fife
This is another stone built cottage in Fife, Scotland which featured a 9Kw wood burning stove and an oil- fired central heating boiler. The owners decided to replace the oil-fired system as this was costly to run and maintain. It was not necessary to replace the existing radiators, so the installation costs were minimised.
10 x 2 bed new build homes — Wiltshire
The Wiltshire Rural Housing Association is committed to developing sustainable, new and refurbished, affordable rental properties in Wiltshire. The innovative and energy efficient Daikin Altherma air-to-water heat pump was specified to supply central heating and hot water services in a new WRHA development of 10 two bedroom homes in Codford, Wiltshire. The installation, completed in December 2007, satisfies local planning authority requirements regarding the incorporation of low to zero carbon renewable technologies.
7 Bedroom retro-fit — Surrey
This substantial, classic Surrey home on a private, gated estate near Guildford suffered from poor insulation, original single glazed windows and an oversized, inefficient gas boiler. The owner chose to replace the boiler with an energy efficient, environmentally friendly alternative and selected the Space Air Daikin Altherma having had previous knowledge of Daikins quality products. The owner has established in a short winter period that his energy bills have greatly reduced and has since replaced his gas fired swimming pool heating system with an Daikin Altherma ‘packaged’ unit, also supplied by Space Air.
3 x Housing Association Refurb
Thames Valley Housing Association provide over 13,000 affordable homes across London and the South East. Much of their housing stock has ageing heating systems in need of replacement. The Space Air Daikin Altherma monobloc system, was used to replace the heating systems in 2 compact semi detached chalet style 1 bedroom bungalows and a very compact detached 3 bedroom house.
36 x New build residential homes — Norfolk
Mulberry Lea is an attractive development of 36 homes in Upwell, Norfolk designed and built by James Development Company Ltd. The site, recently completed, includes detached 3,4,5 and 6 bedroom luxury properties and a terrace of 2 bedroom social housing. Each property features the Daikin Altherma air-to-water heat pump, manufactured by Daikin and supplied by Space Air. One property also includes Daikin comfort cooling, also supplied by Space Air.
2 Bed maisonette — Surrey
This 2 bedroom maisonette was purchased with no central heating system and a direct electric water heater. The property was in need of updating generally. Although mains gas was available, the new owners were keen to incorporate a more energy efficient central heating and hot water system.
3 x Luxury Homes — Surrey
Taking luxury homes to the next level, The property developer of this luxury arts and craft style homes, designed each of the 3 homes to maximize light and space. They have choosen the Daikin Altherma air source air-to-water inverter heat pump system supplied by Space Air for their recent project of ‘Eco’ homes.
Local Authority Refurb - Kent
Wealdon District Council has many properties that are not on mains gas and are heated by direct electric. Direct electric heating is an expensive and inefficient way to heat homes. This prompted Wealdon DC to trial a number of ‘renewable’ technologies to find a suitable alternative to refurbish the heating systems in their existing housing stock, following which they selected the Daikin Altherma split system heat pump supplied by Space Air.
